‘Reckless and exuberant… an excellent production’ THE HERALD SUN
2006 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL AWARD WINNER - “Best Ensemble”
Shocking, bizarre, erotic, disturbing, thrilling, hilarious.
After 80 years, Antonin Artaud’s nightmarish vision, thought by many to be unperformable, is brought bursting to life in this stunning, critically acclaimed debut production by Melbourne based company, Ignite.
A young man falls asleep and wakes to find himself in the surreal landscape of his subconscious. Jet of Blood is the story of Everyman's journey towards self-realisation.
Written in 1926, Artaud’s Jet of Blood is either a work of genius or the ravings of a madman. Out of three and a half pages of fantastical stage directions and explosive dialogue, director Olivia Allen and company have conjured a strange and wonderful theatrical experience that had Melbourne audiences enthralled.
Antonin Artaud's surrealist classic Jet of Blood is the inaugural production of Ignite, a company of WAAPA and VCA graduates. In just four years, the young team has already accrued an impressive range of individual credits with such companies as Melbourne's MTC and Malthouse theatres, Sydney's Belvoir Street and Bell Shakespeare and Perth’s Black Swan Theatre Company.
